About Kibada Widows’ Voice.

Kibada Widows Voice (KWV) was founded in 2017 in Arusha, Tanzania. This is a community- based organization comprising young lawyers who felt the need for an organization that could provide free legal services, combat humiliation of and injustice to widows especially in land matters and a culture that prohibits widows from inheritance of their husband’s property. A widow is a woman whose spouse has died. They are socially vulnerable in some countries including Tanzania, and they are victims of bad beliefs and practices instituted in times past but are still practiced today with strong enforcement such as “widow inheritance” whereby a widow is forced to get married to a male relative of her late husband and “cleansing” where the widow Is expected to have sex with the siblings of her late husband to clean her from her dead husband. They are experiencing humiliation, undignified treatment and difficulties in attaining their legal rights.
